Nurses, We Must Keep Up! (Going Back to School)
Date: July 14, 2023
“If you want to be somebody, if you’re going to get somewhere, then you better wake up and pay attention.” This is a line from a popular song. It comes to mind when I think about higher education and doing something good with my life.
More, Not Less, Education is Generally Needed
Anyone trying to get somewhere has to wake up and pay attention to their surroundings. At present, the world needs people who think fast, work smart, act flexibly, and make wise decisions. Yes, the world is changing. With all these developments, one needs more training than ever before. The healthcare training offered fifty or sixty years ago is simply not enough.

Oftentimes, even a BS or BA degree may limit one’s career goals. Whereby within many settings, an advanced degree is required. Graduate work includes master’s, doctorate, or professional licenses. For this reason, many people return to school for additional coursework and degrees. Of those returning, many choose from healthcare offerings, such as nursing.
A Stepping Stone
In numerous instances, entering a Licensed Vocational Nursing program at a local junior college or a private LVN school is a stepping stone to a higher level of nursing. This is especially true in Registered Nursing.
Up Against Long Waiting Lists
Often those returning to school come up against long waiting lists. Because of this, many students opt for faster educational routes and enter private colleges.
Private and Public Education
Often, selecting a private nursing school truncates one’s wait time. However, private schools may be more expensive. They may also be geographically and logistically more difficult to enter. A good school will try to work with prospective students to help remove entrance obstacles. Additionally, a good academic institution will point a future student toward grants, scholarships, and other resources. Often, these financial aids make one’s college entrance smoother.
Speak With an Academic Advisor
If a student has other obstacles to further education, such as work and family commitments, reputable schools have academic advisors. They understand many of the college hurdles students face. These persons help future students problem-solve their challenges in light of their specific goals.
Going Back to School is Often Worth the Sacrifice
The most important thing to remember when going back to school is that hard work and study will be worth your current sacrifices.~
